She wouldn’t be where she is today without people and AIM products

The AIM business is about people and products, and Melissa Dobney, an AIM Product Consultant from Payette, Idaho, would not be where she is today without both.

Melissa became an AIM Member in the fall of 2008, but her AIM story begins the year prior. Melissa began dating her husband, James Dobney, in April 2007, and James had been taking BarleyLife off and on under the encouragement of Opal Wright, Royal Emerald Director and wife of AIM co-owner and CEO Ron Wright. James and his connection to AIM turned out to be just what Melissa needed.

“I had been very sick off an on for over six years,” Melissa says. “I suffered from dizziness, fatigue, muscle weakness, and recurrent bladder infections. This would cycle every three to four months, and it became worse in the summer or if I was stressed.

“In 2007, my symptoms got much worse. I was having difficulty walking, talking, and swallowing; my muscle weakness got much worse. I couldn’t even do the exercises I had been doing to stay healthy. I started pool therapy, and this helped but didn’t alleviate many of the symptoms. A doctor I worked for finally told me I needed an evaluation. At that point, I didn’t realize how bad I was. I was very emotional and this wasn’t like me either.”

Seeing her struggle, James and Opal teamed up to see if AIM might provide the answer for her health issues.

“James had talked to Opal about me,” Melissa says. “Opal asked him to bring me over so we could meet. I was hesitant but went anyway. While I was there, I met a man who had recovered from lymphoma, and I got to hear his testimony. Afterward, Opal introduced me to AIM BarleyLife®.”

Not long after, Melissa was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy (MS). The BarleyLife that Opal had given her was helpful, but it did not relieve all the symptoms Melissa had. Fortunately, there was another AIM product that ended up fitting her needs even better: AIM LeafGreens®.

“LeafGreens has changed my life,” Melissa says. “It gives me the anti-inflammatory nutrition I need. I have always been anemic, so the iron content helps. My facial twitching is gone, same with the numbness and tingling, and my muscle strength is much better. I sleep better, my skin looks better, and my hair has started coming back in.

“I am a medical assistant for an ear, nose, and throat doctor, and I have always been leery of alternative health. I now take AIM Just Carrots®, AIM RediBeets®, BarleyLife® in the afternoon, as well as AIMega®, AIM Frame Essentials®, AIM Peak Endurance®, CalciAIM™, and AIM Herbal Fiberblend®.”

AIM products have had such a profound effect on Melissa that she made them a constant part of her family’s routine.

“I feel great, and now James, my grandmother, and our four kids take AIM products daily in a breakfast smoothie,” Melissa says. “We all realize being healthy is a lifestyle choice.”

AIM nutrition has been a blessing for Melissa and family, and now she is beginning to reap the benefits of AIM’s rewarding opportunity plan, too.

“My business has grown without even trying,” she says. “I can see all the people that need help and medications, and doctors just give another pill or surgery to placate. I would like AIM to be my job eventually.”

They are here, there, everywhere. But BEWARE!

Peak EnduranceWould you consume a product if:
• It could cause heart rate disturbances, insomnia, anxiety, and an increase in blood pressure.
• It put you at greater risk for obesity, heart disease, diabetes, kidney stones, more cavities, and can break down the immune system.
• It leaches calcium from your bones.
• It contains sweeteners said to be more addictive than sugar.
• It has no nutrient value and boosts the acidic level in your system.

Well, welcome to the world of carbonated beverages, most particularly colas. They are being consumed in record amounts, with an accompanying level of damage.

In 1942 Americans consumed 720 ounces of carbonated drinks annually. Today, the U.S. leads the world in that type of consumption with a whopping annual average of 7,344 ounces, or about 20 ounces per day. By comparison, Ireland is next on the list at 4,284 ounces followed by Canada at 4,046 ounces.

Expressed differently, these drinks – which have little or no nutritional value – now account for about 10 percent of the average daily caloric intake for those consuming them, ranking them fifth on the list of calorie intake.

Not unexpectedly, the biggest consumers are younger people. Males age 12-29 drink 32 ounces per day, or two pounds. Females age 13-24 consume 24 ounces per day, or a pound and one-half per day.

Jim GarlingJim Garling is a Preferred Member from Rochester, New York. For what he does, he can’t afford to be slowed down. He needs to be on top of his health and energy level at all times. He believes in AIM Peak Endurance® as a quality option to junk drinks.

“I am a 50-year-old group exercise instructor,” Jim explains. “I have been teaching group exercise for 24 years, and I teach 13-16 classes a week. I began using Peak Endurance in April of 2007 because I was having a lot of fatigue problems due to my teaching schedule. I needed something that would help. This product did just that. I was having trouble keeping up with my schedule, and now I don’t. It took a week to kick in, and now I use it every day.”

Jim understands that for what he needs to stay healthy and active, the natural ingredients found in Peak Endurance make a whole lot more sense than loading up on refined sugar, carbonation, and caffeine. He is familiar with the phrase garbage in, garbage out. You are what you consume is not lost on him.

The key ingredient in Peak Endurance is ATP (adenosine triphosphate), the essential currency of energy in our bodies. ATP reaches peak production at age 20 then diminishes by more than 50 percent by the time a person reaches age 70. ATP is a natural substance produced by our bodies, unlike sugar or caffeine or ginseng or ephedra.

The nerve impulses that fire our body into action are aided by electrolytes. Peak Endurance contains six of them – sodium, potassium, phosphorous, chloride, magnesium, and calcium.

B vitamins are recognized as deriving energy from carbohydrates, building muscle, synthesizing DNA, and assisting the body in carrying out a number of exercise-related functions. Peak Endurance provides 100 percent of the Reference Daily Intake of vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, and B12.Peak Endurance

Battle with IBS

IBSIf you are affected by irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), you are not alone. You are one of 60 million fellow sufferers.

Though its prevalence goes largely unnoticed, IBS affects as many as one in five Americans and up to a quarter of the world’s population. Symptoms range from discomfort and distress to bloating, constipation, and diarrhea. It is not a fun problem to deal with.

Since 1997, April has been designated as IBS Awareness Month, in part to help spread the word about IBS and end the condition’s relative anonymity. The publicity seems to be working. It is now one of the most common disorders diagnosed by doctors, with as many as 20 percent of Americans suffering from some symptoms of the syndrome. Once diagnosed, there are treatments and lifestyle changes available to diminish the effects of IBS, but awareness is the first step.

Amy HoustonAmy Houston, a Director from Epping, New Hampshire, was one of those people who didn’t know what was wrong with her until she was diagnosed with IBS. Fortunately for her, AIM products were there to help when she needed it.

“The number one product that has made a huge difference for me over the years is AIM Herbal Fiberblend®. I was diagnosed with IBS after never understanding what was wrong with me. After starting on Herbal Fiberblend about nine years ago, I started noticing that my more serious symptoms were going away. I used to have sharp chest pains that I now know were directly linked to my digestive problems. I no longer have those pains. I switch between the cleansing method and maintenance. I like to tell people to start with a small amount and gradually increase the serving size over a couple of weeks. I then recommend that they use it twice per day for three months then maintain on once per day.”

“I recommend adding it to juice or a smoothie. I can make the best tasting chocolate raspberry Herbal Fiberblend smoothie. This is a common treat for me. Yes, I can turn Herbal Fiberblend into dessert! I like the convenient packets for keeping with me. I simply add one to juice. The key is to drink extra water just before or after each serving.

“Herbal Fiberblend is the only product that I will pay to advertise. I just think that it is the best cleanse on the market and that everyone needs to cleanse. When used properly, it will not disrupt your routine. It is very important to explain how to use it properly. I often refer people to the video ‘Fiber-on-the-Go’ and the audio ‘Cleansing for Health.’
“I would highly recommend AIM PrepZymes® as well. I keep a bottle in my purse so I will always have it with me at each meal.”

Most of problems for IBS sufferers begin with the colon. Though researchers have yet to discover the main cause of IBS, they believe that abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract are at least partially to blame. Herbal Fiberblend steps in to help by acting as a colon cleanser and ridding the body of toxic substances that have built up over time.

Two other helpful products for those suffering from IBS are PrepZymes and AIM FloraFood®.
The ingredients in PrepZymes provide a means of replacing or reinforcing the naturally occurring enzymes of the body to help meet the digestive needs of an Americanized diet high in processed foods. PrepZymes contains a number of enzymes including protease, amylase, lipase, cellulose, lactase, sucrase, and maltase. In addition to these, PrepZymes also contains papaya fruit, and wild garlic.

Researchers have found that diet can play a part in exacerbating IBS disease for some patients, especially a diet that is not full of healthy fruits and vegetables. It is these types of diets that PrepZymes was built to combat. For IBS sufferers, this is great news, because the enzyme help in PrepZymes can provide the extra boost needed to get the digestive tract back on the road to health. A healthy enzyme process can ease a lot of discomfort.

The other AIM product for IBS sufferers to consider is FloraFood. This product, too, focuses on helping the body’s digestion process, but instead of doing the job with enzymes, FloraFood attacks the problem with intestinal flora – the “good” bacteria of the digestive tract.

Trillions of bacteria make their home in the digestive tract. Some bacteria are good, but unfortunately some are bad. And it is not uncommon for digestive tracts overrun with bad bacteria to result in symptoms of IBS.

FloraFood provides relief by giving the body extra good bacteria in the form of Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, and Bifidobacterium longum. These forms of good bacteria help balance out the bad bacteria in the digestive tract by improving the intestinal environment, enhancing the immune system, and inhibiting harmful bacteria and enzymes.

Toni EvansToni Evans, a Director from Delaware, Ohio, knows the bacteria battle better than most, and she can testify to the benefits of a product like FloraFood.

I have been a Director for AIM for a number of years and have seen many benefits from the use of the products. A number of years ago I had a rare form of bacteria that went undetected by doctors and was treated with long-term antibiotic therapy. As a result of that therapy, I acquired Candida (yeast infection). After using drugs prescribed by my doctor that didn’t really work and had a lot of side effects, I turned to FloraFood. When I started taking the product I had Candida so bad that three of my fingers were infected and literally oozing pus and thumping so badly I was considering going to the emergency room. After taking massive doses of FloraFood (three capsules two times a day), I have been symptom free. My tongue still has a white coating since I am not willing to follow the strict diet, but thanks to FloraFood, I live symptom free.

“My son has Lyme disease and is taking FloraFood because he is on heavy antibiotic therapy, and it has been a great help. I also have a friend who is a quadriplegic and constantly had yeast growing where his fatwould overlap due to his inability to move. I suggested a regimen of FloraFood, and he no longer suffers from yeast problems. This is truly a remarkable product, and I thank God every day that it came into my life.AIM Products

If there is a super nutrient, it just might be Omega-3

Flax SeedsIt is just the way it is with certain supplements in an industry that seems to be constantly searching for the key to anti-aging and better health. Too often they are billed as “the next big thing.” And too often, they are here today, gone tomorrow. But the test of time distinguishes the pretenders from the real thing.

One nutrient that always deserves to remain at the head of the class is Omega-3s. And their place at the top is an appropriate distinction for one of the most useful and varied supplements available.

Essential fatty acids (EFAs) such as Omega-3s are integral to the health of our bodies, yet they are not nutrients that our bodies can produce on their own. EFAs have to come from diet or supplementation if we are to reap the many benefits that they offer.

EFAs are important because they exist in every cell of the body, and they help maintain structural, metabolic, and regulatory functions in the body. This wide variety of tasks plays an important role in the health of our immune system. As part of each cell, EFAs produce prostaglandins that help the immune system stay at a high level. Omega-3 fatty acids set themselves apart in this regard because the prostaglandins produced by Omega-3s are anti-inflammatory in nature, which can provide many benefits for our bodies.

If the EFAs were missing, continual and cumulative damage may occur in the cell membranes and, if that happens, our health would erode, our immune system would weaken, and we would be more susceptible to aging and disease.

The ability of EFAs to strengthen the immune system is a big reason why it can have so many different benefits for our overall health. One of the other ways fatty acids help is by increasing the blood flow throughout the body. This increase can help nutrients to travel faster to where they need to go, it can unclog arteries and aid cardiovascular health, and it keeps brain function at a maximum by providing increased blood to the brain.

Fish oil versus flax oil

Fish oil is by far the main source of Omega-3s. Most of the Omega-3 on the market is processed from fish oil as found in AIM Cellsparc 360®. Mediterranean and European diets, which have a greater emphasis on fish, often contain an appropriate amount of Omega-3, but Americans have a harder time getting naturally-occurring supplies of the nutrient. Thus, many Americans have turned to Omega-3 supplements, making it an extremely popular supplement.Cellsparc

AIM recognized the importance of Omega-3s and chose to include them in AIMega® when we introduced the product in 2005. AIMega® is a blend of organic seed oils that includes Omega-3 in addition to Omega- 6 and Omega-9 fatty acids. This EFA combination gives AIMega® a balanced blend of fatty acids from monounsatured and polyunsaturated fat sources (healthy fats).

The biggest difference between AIMega® and the other Omega-3 supplements on the market is that AIMega® is one of the unique products that does not get its Omega-3 from fish oil. The Omega-3 in AIMega® is derived primarily from flax seed oil, which typically contains double the amount of Omega-3 found in equal quantities of fish oil.

The list of benefits from Omega-3 is immense and impressive..Flax Seeds

Cardiovascular health

From as early as the 1970s, Omega-3 has been linked to heart health. Cardiovascular research in relation to Omega-3s is one of the most thoroughly established bodies of work among all of the Omega-3s benefits, and the results are very positive.

Studies have found that Omega-3s can help lower cardiovascular disease risk, improve heart rhythms, and lower the risk of experiencing a second heart attack. The findings relating to a lowered risk of a second heart attack first surfaced in 2006, thanks to a study done by researchers from the Mid America Heart Institute and the University of Missouri. Even more recently, Italian researchers found that Omega-3s might help reduce hospital visits for those suffering from heart-related conditions by as much as 9 percent, and a different study said that Omega-3s can help with vascular tone, heart rate, blood lipid levels, blood pressure, and clogged arteries.

Mental acuity

After cardiovascular health, the second most popular use for Omega-3s is increased cognitive ability. To be more specific, Omega-3s are particularly helpful when it comes to protecting against age-related cognitive decline, as recent studies have demonstrated.

Alzheimer’s disease especially is under the microscope when it comes to how Omega-3s relate to the disease. Preliminary trials have shown that the docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) in Omega-3s can reduce the build-up of Alzheimer’s related proteins in the brain, which can lead to the development of the disease and damage to the brain. Another study showed that the Omega-3 fatty acids can reduce the amount of harmful plaque build-up in the brain that can impair cognitive ability and can be a precursor to Alzheimer’s.

Mood and behavior

Similar to its effect on cognition, Omega-3s also can improve mood and behavior in adults and in children. One such trial claimed that Omega-3s can have positive effects on depression, decreasing the rate by as much as 50 percent in patients who take a daily Omega-3 supplement. A similar reduction in depression figures can also be achieved by clinical drugs, but Omega-3 supplementation can do the same work without the cost or side effects.

Cancer

A number of studies report that Omega-3s can help prevent cancers such as breast, prostate, and colorectal cancers. Though there is a need for more research on the link between Omega-3 fatty acids and cancer, results from some studies suggest that the anti-inflammatory properties of Omega-3s could be integral to reducing cancer risks.Flax Seeds

Eyes

Macular degeneration numbers could be reduced with Omega-3 supplements, and overall eye health could be aided with regular supplementation. The DHA found in Omega-3 fatty acids is an important nutrient for the health of nerve cells in the retina, and getting an appropriate amount of Omega-3 can help keep these nerve cell layers from falling into disrepair, resulting in macular degeneration. Some studies even claim that the risk of macular degeneration can be reduced by as much as 70 percent with proper Omega-3 supplementation.

In addition to macular degeneration, researchers found that a topical application of fatty acids would help relieve certain eye-related issues (like dry-eye syndrome).

Mother and child

A connection has been found between healthy fetuses and mothers who receive a proper amount of Omega-3s. Studies indicate that children stand to benefit from their mothers having appropriate levels of fatty acids during pregnancy. One study found that motor skills in children increase if the mother uses Omega-3 supplements during pregnancy, and other studies have found that proper fatty acid levels could improve vision, brain function, and development in children. In addition to these benefits, Omega-3s can also help reduce the risk of offspring developing issues such as diabetes, skin disorders, and weight management.

Health Feature – The China Study – Part 1

China StudyOne of the largest scientific studies of our time, the China Project, has given scientific proof to the foundation of The AIM Companies™ for the past 27 years: nutrition works.

The study, in sum, concludes that eating right and staying healthy can boost your immune system, ward off disease and, in some cases, prevent cancer.

The China Project has helped open the door to a new conversation about healthy eating habits, diet, and nutrition. Cancer and disease are a tragic part of everyday life. People search high and low for help, but the China Project would have us believe that one of the answers has been sitting right in front of us all along. On our plate.

Background

The China Project was organized by researchers from Oxford University, Cornell University, and the Chinese Academy of Preventive Medicine. The study took more than 20 years to complete, and it monitored the death rates of more than 12 different types of cancer in millions of Chinese citizens.

Dr. T. Colin Campbell, a leader of the study during the 1980s and 1990s, and his son, Thomas, wrote about the project in a book titled China Study: Startling Implications for Diet, Weight Loss and Long-term Health. Their summary echoed the project’s final findings – that high-protein diets, especially protein from animal sources, are ultimately harmful to our systems.

Impact of high blood cholesterol

One of the goals of the China Project was to find out the impact that plant-based diets had on the body. Researchers divided the study’s participants into two groups – those who ate a diet very rich in plant-based foods and those who did not – and compared the results between genetically similar individuals.China Study

Researchers believed that an impact might be seen or a correlation discovered between diet and many of the more prevalent diseases in Western culture (i.e., coronary heart disease, diabetes, organ cancer). They were right. The largest predictor that they found was high blood cholesterol, an indicator that led to a 99.9 percent rate of developing disease. In other words, if a subject in the study were diagnosed with high blood cholesterol, there was a 99.9 percent chance that he or she would have one of the many diseases listed by the study.

Lowering cholesterol, the study found, was key in reducing the risk of many types of disease, including cancer. During the study, when cholesterol was cut in half, the risk of developing cancers including liver, colon, lung, and breast cancers, also decreased, with some rates falling more than 90 percent.

But what was most interesting about the study’s findings in relation to cholesterol was that the Chinese participants in the study who were found to be susceptible to these diseases all had significantly lower cholesterol levels than those found in the average American. The ones with high cholesterol still had lower cholesterol than the majority of Americans. As cholesterol levels rose in the study’s subjects, the likelihood of disease increased as well. The numbers indicate that the problem with cholesterol could be a much worse issue for those living in countries with Westernized diets that are full of cholesterol-building foods.China Study

The cholesterol issue brought the discussion back to the diets that the study set out to research. According to the China Project, one of the foods most directly responsible for an increase in cholesterol levels is animal-based protein (i.e., beef, chicken). In addition to animal-based protein, saturated fat and dietary cholesterol can also raise blood cholesterol, but animal-based protein was by far the biggest culprit.

Chinese participants with high levels of cholesterol contracted disease at an alarming rate, but the Chinese diet contained nowhere near as much animal-based protein as does the Westernized diet. Participants in the study averaged only 7.1 grams of animal protein per day. The standard American diet averages 70 grams.

Decreasing one’s intake of animal-based protein became an obvious conclusion for the study’s organizers. Among the Chinese participants, lowering the amount of animal protein from 10 percent of total calories consumed to zero percent was found to be an ideal percentage in the diets of those who are predisposed to the disease. Doing the same in American diets that contain a significantly higher percentage of animal protein would presumably do even more good.

The final verdict was that an ideal percentage of animal protein in a diet is zero. Anything higher exposes the risk for cholesterol and, therefore, disease.

Importance of plant-based diets,
AIM products

In contrast to animal protein diets, it makes sense that plant-based diets would be a better alternative, especially considering the evidence from the China Project. Upon further analysis of plant-based diets, researchers found that these types of foods contain a large amount of antioxidants, which help fight free radicals – one of the leading causes of cancer in the body. The antioxidant properties of plant-based foods are so powerful that they were even capable of lowering cholesterol by clearing arteries and supporting a healthy bloodstream.

Plants also help to keep the body’s pH at an optimal level and to make up for the overly acidifying effects of animal-based foods. When the body pH is not balanced, it can lead to a myriad of problems including a compromised immune system.

This is where the AIM products fit into the discussion. Alkalinity versus acidity is a well-known topic by AIM Members who have found that products like AIM BarleyLife® and AIM Herbal Fiberblend® really make a difference in balancing the body’s internal pH level.China Study

BarleyLife’s focus is on green nutrition from young barley grass – one of the most nutritious plants on earth. Great results have been experienced by people who have tried BarleyLife because it is a natural, healthy alternative to the processed diets that are standard in Western cultures, and the barley provides unparalleled antioxidants and immune system support.

The results from the China Project showed just how harmful animal-based proteins can be. But plant-based proteins are another story. They are a healthy alternative for getting the nutrition we need, and AIM takes care of this issue with products like AIM LeafGreens®.

Fifty percent of LeafGreens is protein, and it is made from natural sources of plant-based nutrition. Barley leaves, faba bean leaves, spinach leaves, and pea leaves provide a synergistic blend of nutrition that acts as a counter to the unhealthy foods that currently exist on the market.

AIM has plenty more that fit the health bill, too. AIM Garden Trio®, AIM Just Carrots®, AIM RediBeets® – the list can go on and on. To hear that so much of our health can be affected by putting good foods and natural supplements into our bodies has to be encouraging for AIM Members because it is what they have been saying for more than 27 years.

(Note: This is the first of a two-part story on the China Project and how its findings relate to health and the AIM products. The second part in the series will be published in the May-June Partners Living Well.)
