The Get-in-Shape New Year’s Resolution

It’s that time of year again. The holiday season is over but the days of feasting have had an impact on your waistline. Or maybe you never acted upon your good intentions from a year ago to exercise more and get into better shape, so the expansion around your middle has inched even further. There is no time to waist. Make it a truly New Year by following through with a healthy resolution
to get in shape through exercise and diet.

Manage Your Weight and Build Lean Muscle

AIM Members have a choice between the  Weight Management Pack (AIM ProPeas™, AIM fit ‘n fiber®, AIM CellStar™ 4-pk [mix-n-match] superjuices) or the  SLIM Pack (AIM ProPeas™, AIM FibreBalance®, AIM CellStar™ [2-pk combo] superjuices). Both Starter Packs offer the nutritional tools to help you achieve your weight-management and lean-muscle goals.

Protein

Protein is an essential nutrient that keeps you healthy by building, maintaining, and replacing the tissue structure of your muscles, organs, and immune system. Digesting protein puts your metabolism in high gear, which helps to burn more fat.

Protein is made from amino acids, but your body can produce only half of the amino acids necessary to sustain your health. The rest must come from food, but the most common source—meat—has an acidic effect on your body pH. The green protein in ProPeas comes from field peas and helps to balance the body’s natural pH. One serving provides 12 grams of protein.

Fiber

Along with ProPeas protein, fiber gives you the I’m full feeling, which tells your body that you have had enough to eat. One suggested serving of fit ‘n fiber or FibreBalance provides 12 grams of fiber, which greatly contributes to the recommended daily fiber intake of at least 26–35 grams.

Antioxidants

With only half the sugar of regular juices, CellStar superjuices help with your get-in-shape resolution by boosting your body with a host of antioxidant-rich superfruits, such as mango, mangosteen and pomegranate.

For a snack or meal replacement that is low-calorie, low-sugar, and low-fat, combine ProPeas, fit ‘n fiber or FibreBalance, and CellStar in a great-tasting drink. Get a healthy start to the New
Year with Starter Packs designed to help you get in shape!

Wise Weight-Watching Tips

Looking for a way to make your weight loss goals stick this year? Try tackling your diet with one of the following tips. And remember, fiber can make a huge difference.

Count your calories

They say that knowing is half the battle, and it is no different with the battle of the bulge. Caloric intake is a valuable measure for waistline-conscious dieters, so keeping track of what you eat and what you need is very important.

Begin by finding out how many calories you need each day by figuring your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR).

To lose weight, ensure that your daily calorie intake is less than your calculated BMR.

Next, keep track of the calories you eat each day using a free calorie counter tool available online like dailyplate.com or my-calorie-counter.com. AIM biologist Phillip Jermann used sparkpeople.com when he lost 75 pounds last year (see USA Nov-Dec 2010 Living Well magazine).

Exercise is essential

Eating healthier is a great jumping off point for your weight loss goals. But truth is, losing weight won’t happen if your lifestyle remains sedentary.

Thirty minutes of physical activity per day will increase the calories burned to improve weight loss. So you may need to find a way to work more exercise into your daily routine. Be creative with your exercise. Take the stairs at work. Walk to the grocery store. Play with the kids. Increased physical activity does not mean a gym membership.

Keep accountable

Surround yourself with people you trust and let them know of your weight loss goals. Having a friend or group to stay accountable to should help you when temptation sets in. It’s always good to have someone rooting for you.

Take your time

Your stomach needs time to tell your mind that you’re full. Slow down at the dinner table, and you can speed up your weight loss.
Practice portion control

Not only should you be eating healthy in order to lose weight, you should probably be eating less, too. Eating the same volume of food is not likely to make much of a difference for you on the scale. Try filling up on satisfying foods packed with fiber, like an AIM fit ‘n fiber® or AIM FibreBalance®
smoothie.
