Inflammation can happen

Daily Essentials Plus One— Frame Essentials®

Inflammation is at the core of pain and can happen anywhere in the body. Aches and pains are often accepted as a natural part of aging. This is especially true when it comes to a condition like arthritis, the diagnosis of which includes a wide spectrum of more than one hundred disorders. According to a prediction by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), by the year 2020 about sixty million Americans will be affected by arthritis. Arthritis fuels the sales of pain relievers, even though using such drugs—whether over-thecounter or prescription—can produce numerous side effects. Is there a natural way to prevent or combat arthritis? AIM’s answer is a resounding YES! Start with the Daily Essentials—greens, essential fatty acids, and fiber—all of which combat inflammation. And then add AIM Frame Essentials ® as your Plus  One for good measure.

Greens—A Daily Essential

A daily intake of AIM BarleyLife®  or AIM LeafGreensprovides an unparalleled, natural source of easily absorbed vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytonutrients, chlorophyll, and enzymes that feed and protect your cells. Greens are an essential part of your diet because they supply the nutrients required to balance your body pH, combat inflammation, and maintain good health.

Essential Fatty Acids—A Daily Essential

AIMega®  is an organic seed-oil blend of essential fatty acids (EFAs) in capsule form for a convenient daily supply of omega-3 and -6. Essential components for the structure, maintenance, and function of your cells, EFAs must come from nutritional sources because your body cannot synthesize them. Along with a multitude of health benefits, EFAs are an integral part of the inflammatory response. Omega-3 decreases inflammation. Omega-6 increases inflammation, and as the modern diet is high in omega-6, most of us tend to be deficient in omega-3. AIMega provides a 2:1 ratio of these EFAs that helps to correct this imbalance and help fight inflammation.

Fiber—A Daily Essential

Fiber is an essential part of your diet, and AIM Herbal Fiberblend ®, AIM FibreBalance®  (CAN), or AIM fit ’n fiber®  (US) supplement your fiber intake and help to reduce inflammation. Not getting enough dietary fiber may increase levels of blood sugar, cholesterol, or triglycerides, which can result in inflammatory health issues such as heart disease or diabetes. A cardiologist at the Mid America Heart Institute, Dr. James O’Keefe stated, “Inflammation is the common denominator in nearly all of the diseases we deal with … Heart disease, diabetes, dementia—they’re all tied to inappropriate, low-grade, chronic inflammation.” In such diseases, high levels of C-reactive protein (CRP)—an indicator of inflammation—are present in the blood. A highfiber intake may lower levels of CRP, so supplementing your diet with AIM fiber products can help to reduce inflammation. “Soluble fiber changes the personality of immune cells—they go from being pro-inflammatory, angry cells to anti-inflammatory, healing cells that help us recover faster from infection,” revealed Dr. Gregory Freund, a professor at the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Plus One Frame Essentials

Along with the benefits of the Daily Essentials, Frame Essentials can be the Plus One needed to get you that much closer to helping prevent, combat, or ease the symptoms of many forms of arthritis, including osteo- and rheumatoid arthritis. Frame Essentials contains a combination of two types of glucosamine—sulfate and hydrochloride— plus methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and boswellia resin, providing a natural health product that supports healthy joints, where the pain of arthritis originates. Glucosamine is an essential element in the formation and repair of cartilage and other body tissues. As you age, your body produces less glucosamine, so supplementing with Frame Essentials can help to correct a deficiency. Naturally found in foods such as meat, seafood, fruits, and vegetables in trace amounts, MSM  is a beneficial sulfur compound especially for reducing inflammation and repairing joints and tissue. By improving blood circulation, MSM may also help glucosamine molecules reach damaged cartilage. Frame Essentials’ third ingredient comes from the resin of the boswellia serrata tree. Commonly known as frankincense, boswellia resin has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for centuries to maintain healthy joints due to its anti-inflammatory, anti-arthritic, and analgesic properties. Research has shown that the benefits from boswellia result when, as in the Frame Essentials’ formula, the resin is standardized to 65% boswellic acid, which may support blood circulation, maintain mobility, and reduce joint swelling and pain. If you are living with arthritis or inflammatory conditions that create aches and pains, the Daily Essentials Plus  One—Frame Essentials—can help at the cellular level. You are made up of trillions of cells, and healthy cells are essential to your wellbeing. Nourish them and feel the difference.

The unnecessary pain of arthritis

Inflammation is your body’s protective response to infection or injury. Yet this normal response can become a chronic condition when it occurs even though there is no threat to your body. Long-term inflammation can damage your body tissue and create disease.

“Inflammation is a key underpinning of every disease process,” writes Jack Challem, personal nutrition coach and author of The Inflammation Syndrome.Furthermore, the dominant diet in North America consists of pro-inflammatory foods and drinks that are high in trans-fats, sugars, and refined carbohydrates. This low-quality nutrition induces inflammation and creates a body environment where disease thrives. According to Challem, this inflammation-promoting diet leads to insulin resistance, high levels of body fat, high blood pressure, accelerated aging, and inflammatory diseases, including allergies, Alzheimer’s, heart disease, cancer, and arthritis. Many experts agree that poor nutrition depresses the immune system and opens the door to life-threatening illnesses.

The unnatural nature of arthritis

Inflammation is a major factor in arthritis – joint inflammation. Arthritis comes in over a 100 different conditions ranging from tennis elbow to crippling rheumatoid arthritis. The most common form is osteoarthritis, which affects the joints that bear your weight, such as hips, knees, and feet. But it can also cause pain in your finger and thumb joints. Even though it is classified as a non-inflammatory arthritis, inflammation is a factor.

The pain of osteoarthritis results from the breakdown and wearing away of cartilage – a continually remodeled, durable tissue that covers the ends of your bones. Cartilage is kept slippery by synovial fluid. If you think of your body as a machine, synovial fluid would be the oil your body needs to keep your moveable parts in good working order. However, the synovial lining and fluid, which lubricates your joints and keeps your cartilage smooth, strong, and healthy, can become inflamed as the disease progresses. If your cartilage degenerates, the ends of your bones rub together, causing pain.

Osteoarthritis affects one in 8 Americans. Up to 90 percent over the age of 75 are affected by osteoarthritis but it is starting to show up in those much younger – even children. Whatever your age, osteoarthritis is not a natural fact of life. And whether the risk factors are dietary, hereditary, injury-induced, or from being overweight, your actions can help to prevent its onset or relieve its symptoms.

Avoiding the pain of arthritis

Common sense tells us to eat nutritional meals that include several daily servings of fruits and vegetables, which promote alkalinity. Maintaining an alkaline body environment is one of your best defenses against inflammatory diseases like arthritis.

More common sense tells us to exercise regularly. Similar to the modern diet that lacks many of our essential nutrients for good health, modern lifestyles eliminate the movement that is so necessary to keep your body in shape and your joints healthy. Sitting in front of computers for work or play is not a physical workout. You have to find some form of exercise that gets you moving regularly.

AIM’s common sense confirms the benefits of whole-food concentrates and natural health products that add nutrients to your diet and target specific health issues, including arthritis.

AIM defense against arthritis

AIM Frame Essentials® combines glucosamine, Boswellia serrata, and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) for a synergistic formula that helps to relieve osteoarthritic pain, whether you have debilitating joint soreness or tennis elbow.

Glucosamine contributes to the formation of cartilage, tendons, and synovial fluid and helps to relieve joint pain. As you age, the body produces less glucosamine. Dr. Michael Murray, author of the Encyclopedia of Natural Medicine, defines osteoarthritis as “a degenerative condition where the body does not manufacture sufficient quantities of cartilage. Eventually you get bone rubbing on bone.” Murray recommends supplementing with glucosamine, which “leads to growth and regeneration of the cartilage.”

Boswellia serrata provides boswellic acids that are known to maintain blood supply to inflamed joints, reduce joint swelling, and reduce pain.

Sulfur is a mineral that is naturally present in every cell of your body, and most notably in the cartilage. MSM may help to reduce pain and maintain healthy joints.

AIMega® provides a necessary 2:1 ratio of omega-3 and -6 essential fatty acids (EFAs). Essential for the health and function of all of your cells, EFAs may also play a pivotal role in balancing the inflammatory response of the body.

Whole-food concentrated greens, such as AIM LeafGreens® and AIM BarleyLife®, contribute to your overall wellness by providing a wealth of nutritional support. Their alkalinizing effect on your body goes a long way in keeping chronic inflammation at bay.

This combination of products taken in the correct amounts may combat arthritis.

Dancing in the Streets (or at least the backyard …)

When it comes to relieving the pain of rheumatoid arthritis, the whole-food concentrate BarleyLife proved to be the answer for AIM Member Christopher Hancock, who was diagnosed with this debilitating form of arthritis back in 1985. At that time, Christopher had no idea how much this disease would affect him and his family. Severe pain, joint deformity, and fatigue eventually required that he quit his job in 2000.

His pain was alleviated by medication, but over the years Christopher had to try different drugs after a drug stopped being effective. “Doctors warned me that everyone and their uncle would try to make me better through some ancient formula or secret that had been handed down through their families,” says Christopher. “Well, when you are in severe pain, you try other things, and I tried several, which always ended in disappointment.”

In 2006 Christopher’s good friend, AIM Director Ken Campbell, gave him a couple of free canisters of BarleyLife. “To be honest,” says Christopher, “I thought, oh well, here we go again, another secret formula that will have me dancing in the streets.”

At first he did not notice any great improvements and was ready to stop taking it. After attending an AIM meeting, it was suggested that Christopher give BarleyLife more time. This is the case with many severe conditions and natural medicine – it can take time to feel the health improvements.

After about four or five months, Christopher noticed that his energy level was up and his pain level was down. “I also found that I was sleeping better,” he explains, “With less pain, I didn’t wake up every time I had to turn over in bed.” Rest allows the body to repair itself. Christopher also found that he could go shopping and be on his feet for four to five hours.

And things got even better. “In 2008, I built a forty-five-foot-long wooden fence in my backyard, practically all by myself. Before BarleyLife, I could barely pick up a hammer,” says Christopher. “Now I’m not saying that BarleyLife is a miracle remedy for everyone, I can only tell you about my experience and how much it has relieved my pain and improved my energy levels.”

You do not have to suffer. AIM provides natural solutions to help relieve arthritis or prevent its onset.

It’s definitely a guy thing

Why is it that guys often ignore the warning signs? Or that men tend to push the pain threshold? Is it that “be a man” programming that is a part of most boys’ lives? It can’t be the catchphrase “no pain, no gain” for which we can blame Jane Fonda and her workout videos. So it has to be a guy thing.

For all the guys who are hurting and not doing anything about it, AIM has just the thing for you.

AIM Frame Essentials®

Take something natural to relieve joint pain and help to heal problems at the source instead of taking pain-killing drugs that mask your symptoms (with possible side effects). AIM Frame Essentials provides you with natural relief from the symptoms of osteoarthritis.

Just ask Preferred Member Djohan Noorjadi of Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada. When Djohan and his wife
Susan came into AIM’s Vancouver office in June to place their regular order, he talked about his health improvements after taking Frame Essentials.

“For three months, I had a painful, swollen thumb. There was stiffness in my hands and knee joints as well. I also had a bit of tennis elbow. I’ve been a tennis player since I was 14 years old and still play at least six hours a week. My friend, AIM Director Agnes Budiman, told me about Frame Essentials, so I gave it a try.

“I have to say that within three to four weeks, the swelling in my thumb went down and the pain disappeared. Same thing for the stiffness in my knees and the tennis elbow. Both my wife and I continue to take Frame Essentials, and AIM BarleyLife® is also a regular part of our day.”

Sometimes taking natural health products requires more time to heal naturally – a healthy alternative to quickly (and temporarily) masking the pain with drugs. And AIM’s green, whole-food concentrates, such as AIM LeafGreens® and the BarleyLife that Djohan takes, also help to counteract inflammation and heal the body with nutrition.

Strength in Numbers

Frame Essentials provides an effective combination of medicinal ingredients: glucosamine, Boswellia serrata, and methylsulfonylmethane (MSM). Together, these individually effective ingredients team up to focus on relieving joint pain and healing at the source of the problem.

Glucosamine

Your body produces glucosamine – an amino sugar that is required for the formation and repair of cartilage as well as for the structure of other body tissues such as ligaments, synovial fluid, and heart valves. Unfortunately, the older you get, the less glucosamine you produce. Along with relieving pain and inflammation, supplementing with the glucosamine in Frame Essentials provides your body with what it needs to build and repair cartilage.

Boswellia

For centuries, the resin from the boswellia serrata tree has been used by Ayurvedic doctors in India as an herbal remedy for maintaining healthy joints. By improving blood supply to the joints and supporting healthy blood vessels, boswellic acids reduce joint swelling, provide pain relief, and keep you mobile. With its anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, boswellia has been shown to help not only those with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis but also individuals suffering from disorders such as asthma, emphysema, and ulcerative colitis.

MSM (methyl-sulfonyl-methane)

Found in every cell of the body, sulfur is a mineral that plays a vital role in tissue structure. As a biologically active form of sulfur, the MSM in Frame Essentials contributes to healthy joints by reducing inflammation, swelling, and pain. MSM also helps to repair damaged joints and tissue.

With Frame Essentials, you can still be one of the guys.

A new best friend for man’s best friend

A new best friend for man’s best friend

When AIM products go to the dogs, good things happen. Amy Chiang, a customer of Director Shirley Wang from Richmond, British Columbia, Canada, has a pet named Fa-ji who is living proof of BarleyLife’s benefits for creatures big and small.

“I own a four-year-old Chinese bulldog named Fa-ji, which means ‘prosperous.’ Because he has protruding eyes and a concave nose, he experiences a lot of tears and discharge, a runny nose, foul breath, and smelly ears, and he often has a rash on his face. I have spent quite a bit of money taking him to a veterinarian.

“Then, Shirley introduced me to AIM BarleyLife® and told me that it could help detoxify the body. So I added one teaspoon of BarleyLife to Fa-ji’s food. In two weeks, his symptoms have improved a lot. He has less tears and discharge, no runny nose, his rash is gone, and even his ears are not smelly. Fa-ji has become very clean and healthy.”

With the dog days of summer upon us, now seems like an appropriate time to explore the connection between two of man’s best friends: dogs and AIM products. Much of the nutrition found in AIM products works as well on pets as it does on humans, with whole-food concentrates benefiting both.

BarleyLife is one of the most common pet crossovers since barley grass is a natural, nutritious part of a canine diet. Dogs seem to do great with an extra dose of green grass for a variety of reasons. Many popular store-bought dog foods lack the nutrition that dogs need, so reintroducing the lost vitamins, minerals, and enzymes through barley is a natural solution.

Members have been known to sprinkle teaspoon servings of BarleyLife onto dog food. Researchers and veterinarians have traced barley’s powerful canine powers to chlorophyll, vitamin C, beta carotene, and enzymes.

In particular, enzymes are important for dogs because they aid digestion and absorption of nutrients, many of which go unabsorbed due to the heat processing of most foods. A lack of nutrient absorption can lead to many problems, including one of the dog world’s most famous: bad breath. A lack of enzymes is the first step toward disease, so it is vitally important to help replenish your pet’s enzyme count through diet.

In addition to barley grass, other AIM supplements have had a positive effect on dogs’ outlook over the years. Members have long been using AIM Frame Essentials® for relief of joint pain. Glucosamine, like that found in Frame Essentials, is a standard supplement for veterinary care of arthritic pets. Debby Jansen from Nampa, Idaho, saw Frame Essentials work wonders on her dog Molly.

“I gave some Frame Essentials to Molly since she was so stiff she could hardly walk. I gave her the caps in her mouth – I had to push them to the side of her mouth so she would swallow them – and I saw a loosening of her movements in the next couple of days. She was even able to jump on the couch again, which she was not allowed to do but did it anyway when I was not looking. She was running like a pup again.”

Another AIM product that has produced results is AIMega® and its essential fatty acids. Long known to aid human hair, skin, and nails, the Omega-3, -6, and -9 nutrients in AIMega have done the same trick on dogs like Mac, a 75-pound lab mix owned by Chairman’s Club Director Sandy Combs from Debary, Florida.

“Every April when the pollen count in Florida would increase, Mac would have severe skin allergy reactions that caused open sores and hair loss. After taking four AIMega a day – he takes the capsules hidden in dog treats and dinner leftovers – his skin healed up immediately. His fur grew back shiny and thick.”

Whether it is barley supplementation for better breath and more energy or glucosamine and fatty acids for joints and skin, AIM products have loads of crossover benefits for your canine friends. Make your dog’s life a better one with whole-food nutrition from AIM.

J.R. Celski on the road to recovery and the 2010 Olympics

JR CelskiThe road to recovery for AIM-sponsored speedskater J.R. Celski has been marked with extraordinary healing and unbeatable AIM nutrition. For that reason, being full-speed at the 2010 Winter Olympics seems like a very real possibility.

J.R. qualified for the Olympics in a dramatic Olympic Trials meet at Marquette, Michigan, in September. The 19-year-old speedskating superstar experienced both the thrill of victory and the agony of defeat. During the competition, J.R. took first in the 1,500-meter race and finished second in the overall standings. However, on the final day of competition, J.R. took a nasty spill and suffered a serious injury that ended his run at the Olympic Trials and put his Olympics status in jeopardy.

After surgery for a deep cut on his left leg, J.R. has spent the past two months recovering and recuperating at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His regimen has included regular physical therapy and an increased amount of AIM nutrition. The results have been nothing short of miraculous.

“He’s ahead of schedule and doing super well,” says Sue Celski, an AIM Director from Federal Way, Washington, and the proud mom of J.R. “He is very anxious, as you can imagine. However, we all know that we need to get this right since this is our only chance to do so. His healing is going great, and his outlook – like ours – is totally positive.”

J.R. Celski and Darryl HicksThe providential circumstances surrounding J.R.’s injury are remarkable. J.R.’s injury had the potential to be devastating. When he crashed, his skate sliced into his leg, and had the cut been an inch or two in a different direction, it could have done irreparable damage to the leg. J.R.’s location on the track and the efficiency of the medical team helped get J.R. out of the rink and over to the hospital as quickly as possible. Dr. Larry Lewis performed emergency surgery that evening and consulting and overseeing J.R.’s recovery is Dr. Eric Heiden, himself an Olympic speedskater (long track) and the winner of five Olympic gold medals in the 1980 Olympic games. Dr. Heiden called J.R.’s injury simply a “speed bump on the road to the Olympics.”

Since the injury, J.R. has been quickly improving. Doctors did not expect J.R. to be able to bend his leg at a 90-degree angle until six weeks after surgery. It took J.R. just 31 days. He bent the knee to 115 degrees soon after, and he continues to improve leading up to the February Olympics.

A big part of J.R.’s recovery has been regular supplementation with AIM products. His product regimen is lengthy and includes the following: AIMega®, AIM BarleyLife® Xtra, AIM Herbal Fiberblend®, AIM PrepZymes®, AIM Just Carrots®, LeafGreens®, AIM Peak Endurance®, CalciAIM™, AIM RediBeets®, AIM Cellsparc 360®, and AIM Proancynol® 2000. J.R. has recently added AIM’s new ProPeas vegetable protein powder, which is one of the finest protein products on the market. Together, the AIM products and J.R.’s determined effort have him on the right road to recovery.

In next month’s Olympics, J.R. is expected to compete in the 1,500-meter individual race and the 3,000-meter team relay. With the experience of the past year under his belt and his stellar performances in the World Cup racing season, J.R. will be considered by many as a favorite to win a medal at the Vancouver Olympics.

Look for Olympic schedules and news from AIM in the coming weeks, and be sure to cheer on J.R. as he prepares for the opportunity of a lifetime.

The Celski family would like to thank all members of the AIM family for the support, encouragement, and prayers you have extended to J.R.

{J.R. Celski is a sponsored athlete of AIM International, Inc.}

You can do something about arthritis pain

Arthritis affects more than 46 million Americans, and millions more are at risk for the condition. Are you one of them?

A survey provided by the AARP would suggest that you very well might be. To find out, take a look at the following statements, and see which ones apply.

• You are over the age of 45.
• You are 10 pounds or more overweight.
• You have had a serious knee injury.
• You did, or currently do, spend more than three hours per day doing heavy lifting on a regular basis.

If any one of these conditions applies to you, then chances are good that you are at risk for arthritis.

Such a broad survey might seem overly simplistic, but it makes sense when you consider the broad scope of arthritis’s reach. Arthritis is a blanket term that describes more than 100 specific medical conditions ranging from back pain to fibromyalgia. Generally speaking, arthritis deals with problems of the joints, which include swelling, pain, stiffness, and joint damage. In these terms, it is easy to see just how prevalent arthritis can really be.

Dee Sanders, a Director from San Antonio, developed carpal tunnel syndrome – a form of arthritis that affects the wrists – and was very happy to find relief in the AIM products.

“In 2003 I was working as a computer program analyst and was required to use the computer mouse a lot for spreadsheets. I started suffering with carpal tunnel syndrome. The pain was from the wrist to the elbow, and I was gravely concerned about having to retire early and have surgery on my wrist.

“My upline, Star Sapphire Director Betty Casey, asked me if I had ever tried the glucosamine in AIM Frame Essentials®. It was foreign to me at that time, but I said I would give it a try. I took two capsules morning, noon, and night. I can honestly say that within three weeks the pain subsided. I then went to two capsules daily. I have not had an occurrence of carpal since!”

Glucosamine is the key ingredient in Frame Essentials. It stimulates the growth and repair of cartilage, helping joints to heal and recover faster and more effectively. Frame Essentials also contains methylsulfonylmethane (MSM) and Boswellia serrata. MSM is found in healthy joint fluid. Boswellia extract helps improve blood supply to the joints, which helps reduce joint swelling and pain.

Together, these three ingredients help make Frame Essentials a powerful joint supplement and one that many Members – like Cathy Palacios, a Preferred Member from Pharr, Texas – can’t imagine living without. She was tired of suffering from pain in her hands, elbows, and shoulders.

“A wonderful friend of mine introduced me to AIM products and told me she thought I would really benefit from taking them. I read all about Frame Essentials and decided to take them. In a matter of days I felt relief, and I’ve been on them ever since. I maintain with two capsules a day.

“I’m 65 years young and I do altar service at Mass that requires me to kneel several times on the tile floor, especially when I do the incense in front of the altar. I can honestly say that I never complain about joint pains. ”

For better body frame health: AIM Frame Essentials®

AIM Frame Essentials® offers a unique glucosamine complex in a highly digestible format that can promote ease of movement and provide much needed support for overworked and stressed joints and joint tissue.

While many other supplements may only contain one form of glucosamine, two types of glucosamine are incorporated into AIM’s Frame Essentials® formula, making this supplement truly unique. When taking AIM Frame Essentials®, users will benefit from glucosamine sulfate plus glucosamine hydrochloride.

Additionally, many glucosamine users experience increased benefits when adding methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), a biologically active form of sulfer. MSM serves to enhance the role of glucosamine in providing joint relief. Meanwhile, the AIM Frame Essentials® formula also contains boswellin extract to help maintain blood supply to the joints, and help to reduce joint swelling, pain, and stiffness.

Ideal cell food for joints

Glucosamine may be the ideal cell food for joints. Many clinical trials have demonstrated that supplementing the diet with glucosamine results in less pain and an increased range of movement for those experiencing joint and cartilage problems.

Joint and cartilage problems are not just an affliction that impacts the elderly. Depending upon fitness level, occupation, and the amount of muscle and joint stress we have experienced in our lives, cartilage problems can begin when we are in our early forties.

Cartilage is the connective tissue that covers and protects the end of bones. It separates and cushions the bones, serving as a type of shock absorber to buffer our bones from rubbing together during body movement.

As we age, the millions of movements we have made in our lives begin to place wear and tear on cartilage. Cartilage begins to deteriorate. It may deteriorate completely, causing the bones to rub against one another, or the cartilage may break off into bits and begin to irritate the nearby soft muscle and tissue.

Joint pain and stiffness can begin at age 45

According to the Arthritis Society of Canada, the wear and tear of cartilage may become noticeable as early as age 45. The fingers, knees, hips, neck, and lower back are prime targets for cartilage wear. We sometimes feel stiff and sore in these areas. Meanwhile, joint pain is created as nearby muscles attempt to compensate for cartilage loss by working in ways for which these muscles were not designed.

Inflammation and damage to the joints and connective tissue (cartilage) is a condition often referred to as arthritis. There are over 100 different types of arthritis, but the most common form is a called osteoarthritis, a degenerative disease, where as we have just described, the cartilage breaks down and causes the bones to rub against one another.

Osteoarthritis primarily affects the weight-bearing joints, including the knees and elbows, and can manifest with very painful symptoms. The results can be debilitating since this condition impacts our weight-bearing capacity. It can also create havoc for athletes or those with occupations where they absolutely depend on complete mobility.

Staying active is important

As we’ve seen, one might think that osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition that only inflicts the elderly, but athletes and sports enthusiasts of all ages are prone to the condition once they reach mid-age. The chance of developing painful joints only increases with age. For the older age group, injury most often occurs when we are participating in the sports activity that we routinely enjoy. In fact, sports-related injuries among those age 65 and older increased by 54 percent during a six-year period when studied by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Athletes and those who exercise regularly may place undue stress on the cartilage and joints of the body. Additionally, the repetitive use of a particular joint may increase the chance for wear and tear of the cartilage, thus causing the bones and surrounding tissue to become irritated, stiff and sore. Being overweight, increasing age, previous joint injury, or repeated damage to the same joint year after year, may further contribute to the problem.

For many people, the reason for age-related sports injury after the age of 40 might simply be this: lack of proper warm up and rest. Rather than push onward as we did during our younger years, experts recommend that we take time to give muscles and joints a brief rest during the sporting event. Starting every exercise routine with adequate stretching and warm up is equally important. Especially as we age, we need to get muscles moving slowly before strenuous physical activity begins.

Low-impact exercises to maintain muscle tone may also be helpful in reducing pain. (Weak or unused muscles may result in more pain.) Mild exercising may also help to maintain the full range of motion. Applying heat or cold can provide temporary relief after an exercising event, and health experts recommend relaxation techniques, as well as maintaining a stable, healthy body weight as key to avoiding sport-related injury and joint stress.

Glucosamine research

Since glucosamine is an amino sugar, it is made in the body from simple carbohydrates (glucose) and the amino acid, glutamine. Our bodies generally use glucose to produce energy, and the amino sugars found in glucosamine are incorporated into the structure of body tissue, such as muscle and nearby connective joint tissue.

Many clinical trials over the years have demonstrated that supplementing with glucosamine results in less pain and increased range of movement for those suffering from joint pain and stress to the connective tissues. Many have found that glucosamine performs better than ibuprofen in providing relief from joint pain, and stiffness, while providing better range of movement.

“Reasonably good evidence indicates that glucosamine supplements effectively relieve pain and other symptoms of osteoarthritis.” (The Natural Pharmacist, 2004)

“Besides relieving symptoms, there is some evidence that glucosamine might actually slow the progression of the disease.” (The Natural Pharmacist, 2004)

There is no indication that glucosamine interacts with other medications. Of course, you should always consult with your health care practitioner when adding something new to your diet. Children and pregnant women should also consult with a health care practitioner. Likewise, prolonged and/or severe pain should not be overlooked and may require immediate attention as a result of trauma or injury to the joints and limbs.

Pushing your limits?

Try AIM Frame Essentials®

If you are active—walking, running, biking, playing tennis, gardening, climbing mountains or working at physically demanding occupations—your joints are taking a pounding every single day. The cartilage that cushions and enables your joints to move comfortably is being challenged and perhaps even worn away by repeated movement or impact. Wouldn’t it be tremendous to do something now to stop the process of joint degeneration? Wouldn’t it be great 10, 20, 30 or even 40 years from now to enjoy the same (or better) mobility you enjoy today? It’s possible with AIM Frame Essentials®.
Our lifestyles demand “performance”—producing the greatest results human efforts can achieve—with little regard for the consequences of our exertions. We push our limits almost every day, and our amazing bodies rise to the challenge, for a time. But there comes a day when, if we have forgotten to care for those unseen warriors, our joints and cartilage, they will wear out and the quality of our lives will suffer. The combination of two forms of glucosamine, MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) and boswellin extract in AIM Frame Essentials®# can help to maintain proper joint function, rebuild injured cartilage and prevent the damage of every day wear and tear.

Glucosamine

Glucosamine stimulates the production of cartilage-building proteins, helping to maintain our cartilage and replace cartilage that has been worn away through years of use or joint stress. It also aids in the absorption of water in the cartilage to more adequately cushion joint movement. AIM Frame Essentials® contains two forms of glucosamine to ensure that your body will absorb the form that best meets its needs.

MSM

MSM, a biologically active form of sulfur, is similar to that found within the synovial fluids in joints. Research has also shown that MSM enhances the effectiveness of glucosamine to maintain joint flexibility and mobility.

Boswellin extract

Known for centuries for its effectiveness in maintaining healthy joints, boswellia serrata, improves blood supply to the joints. This helps in reducing joint swelling, maintaining mobility and reducing pain due to joint stiffness.
How about you? If you are active, why not employ an ounce of prevention and add AIM Frame Essentials® to your regular nutritional regimen for a healthy, mobile future? If you are suffering from joint pain, give AIM Frame Essentials® the 30 day test. Take two or more AIM Frame Essentials® twice a day for 30 days and see what happens. Your joints will thank you!

A story of cartilage restored

Ron WrightAIM co-owner, Ron Wright has experienced the restoration of damaged cartilage first-hand. At age 14, Ron suffered a very severe hip injury. It took a year to bring his hip function back to near-normal. However, over the years, the cartilage in his hip deteriorated until, by age 69, he was in continual pain. Ron explains, “I found standing and walking difficult and was only getting 1 to 2 hours sleep a night, due to the pain.” Ron sought a sports medicine specialist who told him his hip was basically functioning without cartilage, bone-on-bone, and recommended hip replacement. Not willing to take such drastic measures, Ron turned to the new AIM Frame Essentials® in vegetarian capsules. After two weeks of taking just three capsules per day, Ron realized he was sleeping better and had less pain. He sought a second opinion from another hip specialist. Viewing the new x-ray, the doctor explained, “Mr. Wright, if I had your hip, I wouldn’t have a hip replacement. You have slight bone-on-bone contact on the side, but on the top there is cartilage. It’s getting better!” When Ron showed his doctor the AIM Frame Essentials®, the doctor validated the effectiveness of glucosamine in restoring cartilage. Ron is enjoying greater mobility—without pain—than he has in years.
